Still Hung Up on Fourth Wing: A Cliffhanger I Wasn’t Ready For

I didn’t read for months, it wasn’t till June. Not because I was in a slump, not because life got too busy (okay, maybe a little of that too), but mostly because I was emotionally wrecked and left dangling off the cliff that is the end of Onyx Storm. Thanks, Rebecca Yarros. 😩

It all came rushing back when my friend messaged me the other day, saying she hadn’t picked up a single book in weeks because she was still hung up on Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm. She didn’t just buy the physical books — she also bought the audiobooks because she wanted to re-live the pain, apparently. (I get it, though, I genuinely do.)

There’s something about this series — the dragons, the tension, the characters you fall in love with (and grieve for 😭), and that writing — it just gets its claws in you and refuses to let go.

And don’t even get me started on the end of Onyx Storm. I have SO many questions and ZERO answers. Now we’re all just sitting here… waiting. Waiting for Yarros to bless us with the next book and maybe, just maybe, some answers.

Also, this is your reminder: if Broccoli the cat doesn’t make it into the next book, I swear, I will riot. 🐈‍⬛

P.S. After months of wandering the book wilderness, I finally managed to somewhat recover… thanks to Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas. If you’re also stuck in the post-Onyx Storm abyss, this series might just be the emotional lifeline you need. It’s got heartbreak, badass characters, and the kind of world-building that helps you forget (temporarily) that you’re still waiting on Rebecca Yarros. 😅

Until then, I guess I’ll try to recover… or maybe reread. Again.

📚 Want to dive into the world of Basgiath?

I don’t blame you. If you’re ready for dragons, danger, and emotional damage (the good kind), you can grab all three books in the Fourth Wing series right here:

Coffee First, Questions Later — My Morning Brew Routine

There’s something sacred about that first sip of coffee — and for me, it starts with my trusty Ninja DualBrew Pro (aka my favourite kitchen sidekick).

📍 Get the same one here — I’m obsessed

This coffee machine is a multitasking queen, just like me. Whether I’m in the mood for a classic carafe of McDonald’s grind or need a quick pick-me-up with a K-cup in the afternoon, the Ninja CFP301C does it all. Pod or drip? She’s got options, honey.

My Morning Brew Routine

  1. The grind of choice: McDonald’s premium roast (yep, it’s that good).
  2. Brew style: Classic, with 55 oz of liquid motivation.
  3. Add-ins: A swirl of caramel coffee syrup to sweeten the sass.
  4. Mug: Obviously a Taylor Swift one — because we love a themed moment.

And when 2 p.m. hits and I need a little boost to keep slaying the day? I just pop in a K-cup, slide that adapter into place, and let my Ninja work her magic.

The caffeine hits, the vibe shifts, and suddenly I’m ready to take on anything — or at least answer a few emails without side-eye.

That first cup sets the tone — and thanks to my Ninja, every sip feels like a tiny win. Whether it’s a full pot or a quick K-cup boost, my coffee routine is sacred.

Got a fave brew or syrup I should try next? Drop it in the comments — because coffee people stick together. 💬☕

Until next pour,

Ribfest Ready: Summer Love, & Switchable Glasses

Sunday is one of those glorious summer days— sunshine, swimming, and Ribfest (yes, I’m already dreaming of sticky fingers and sweet sauce). But before I dive into full BBQ mode, I had to pop in with two essential things I’m obsessed with right now:

  1. My Pair Eyewear glasses — a literal vibe.
  2. The book that made me fall for fake marriage and slow-burn sass: Till Summer Do Us Part.

👓 Pair Eyewear: My New Favourite Accessory (That Actually Does Something)

You know how I feel about cute and functional — and these glasses are chef’s kiss perfection. Pair Eyewear lets you customize your look with snap-on top frames. One pair, endless personality.

Right now, I have two shipments on the way because… self-control? Never met her.
One’s from their new School Spirit collection, and the other is — wait for it — Harry Potter themed. I was not safe. At all. 😅

🧠 Real talk: I have strong prescription needs — I’m talking astigmatism + both nearsighted and farsighted. I wear my glasses literally 24/7 (except for sleeping), and Pair absolutely nailed it. The prescription is crystal clear, and the frames are lightweight and comfy enough to wear all day long. Functional and fabulous? Yes please.

And let’s not forget — I’m officially an EYECON. Translation?
✨ Birthday gift (it’s my birthday month, so I’m waiting 👀)
✨ Anniversary rewards
✨ Sales, sneak peeks, member-only drops, giveaways, exclusive collections — basically everything I love wrapped into one VIP-level loyalty program.
✨ Free gifts — I’ve gotten a few, minus the Santa exchange (still salty lol)

They even have Extra Points Days, and those points add up fast when you’re… well, me, and always adding new toppers to your cart 😅

Today, I’m torn between going bold or chill because I need to match both my Ribfest energy and my bookish aesthetic.

📚 Till Summer Do Us Part — My Thoughts? I. AM. OBSESSED.

Let me just say… Scottie and Wilder? Top-tier tension.
This book is the definition of a slow burn done right. The fake marriage, the emotional tension, the moments where you KNOW they’re catching feelings but pretending not to? Absolute serotonin.

  • Scottie is funny, awkward, sharp, and so relatable.
  • Wilder gave me the ick and the butterflies — and that’s how you know it’s real 😂
  • The emotional build-up? Tense. The chemistry? 🔥
  • The ending? I re-read the vows scene three times. No shame.

If you’re into laugh-out-loud awkwardnessfake relationship tropes, and watching characters fall in love while denying it every step of the way, you need this in your beach bag.

💬 Final Sip

I’ll be back Monday with a new read and maybe a new topper on my Pair of glasses 😉
But for now, I’m off to swim, snack, and maybe pretend I’m Scottie, living my fake marriage turned slow-burn dream life at summer camp.

Two Dogs, Two Walks, Two Vibes: Finn vs. Whiskey

Okay, so I already posted today, but after this evening adventure, I had to come back with a little bonus blog. Because I take my dogs for separate walks for the first time? Let’s just say—it was a journey. 😅

🌼

Walk 1: Finn, My Sweet Angel Boy

I took Finn first—my calm, heat-loving, big sookie boy. We went for a 30-minute walk, and honestly, I don’t know who enjoyed it more—me or him.

He sniffed flowers. He rolled in the grass. He trotted along without a single care in the world.

No pulling. No barking. No drama.

Other dogs? He couldn’t be bothered. Finn was out here living his main character moment.

It was the kind of peaceful walk that makes you believe in gentle mornings and quiet joy.

🐾

Walk 2: Whiskey… My Wild Child

Then… there’s Whiskey. Oh, Whiskey.

If you’ve seen Marley & Me, you know exactly what I’m dealing with.

He came out of the house ready—pulling, spinning, jumping like we were in the opening scene of an action movie. I thought, “Okay, maybe we’ll power walk it out.” And for a bit? He surprised me. He actually walked beautifully! I was like, “YES, HE’S GETTING IT!”

…until we got home.

Our next-door neighbour had their dog out.

And Whiskey LOST HIS MIND.

Like 120 pounds of pure chaos. I’m not exaggerating when I say I was clinging to the leash like it was a lifeline. My hand? Still throbbing. My dignity? Gone. 🤡

☕ Final Thoughts from the Sidewalk:

Would I do it again?

Absolutely.

Because even when it’s chaotic, it’s ours.

Finn gave me peace. Whiskey gave me a free upper-body workout.

And together, they gave me a story worth telling.

Stay tuned for more dog drama, book recs, and Swift Tea moments.

This life is brewed strong—just how I like it. 💛

Current Obsessions: Swift Tea, Secondhand Embarrassment & Sunrise Walks

This morning started with the soft shuffle of paws, a sunrise so pretty it looked like it was blushing, and me, wrapped in a hoodie, walking my two dogs like we owned the whole world. There’s something magical about being out there before the chaos starts. Just me, Finn, Whiskey, and the sky doing its thing.

Now let’s talk about what I’m currently obsessed with:

☕

The Mug

My student made me this absolute gem of a mug: a dog face on one side and Swift Tea scrawled across it like destiny. I drink hot or cold—no discrimination here—and this mug just hits different. Bonus points because the dog on it looks like Finn. Instant serotonin.

📖

The Book: Till Summer Do Us Part

I’m on page 237 and I swear, I’ve laughed out loud, shed a tear, and literally whispered, “No. Freaking. Way.” more than once.

Scottie is chaos, heart, and too relatable. I’ve found myself wondering, Would I ever find a Wilder? Also… that therapy scene? The level of secondhand embarrassment I felt was criminal. I had to close the book, cover my face, and just breathe through it. Yeah. Still recovering from the secondhand embarrassment, thanks.

Favourite quote so far? “It goes back to the piercing.”

IYKYK. And if you don’t, you need to grab this book immediately.

Between that mug, that book, and these soul-resetting walks, I’m in a really good place this week. It’s the little joys, right? A good sip, a good story, and good dogs.

What’s your current obsession?

First Sip of the Final Stretch: Crescent City & a New Beginning

This morning feels like the calm before the academic storm — except I’m weirdly excited for it. Today marks the first class of my very last course in my Master’s program. One final lap. One last push. One more excuse to pour an extra-strong coffee.

With my favourite mug in hand (you know, the one with the dog that suspiciously looks like Finn), I sat down this morning feeling a bit like Bryce Quinlan herself — overwhelmed but oddly empowered.

📚 What I Just Finished: Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas

Let’s talk about this rollercoaster of a read.

Rating: 5/5 lattes ☕☕☕☕☕
Genre: Urban Fantasy / Adult Fantasy
Mood: Emotional damage, hot Fae, badass female leads, and plot twists that will wreck your sleep schedule.

Bryce is a character that grows on you in layers — strong, messy, loyal, and a little broken (aren’t we all?). And Hunt… let’s just say I would definitely risk it all. The world-building is dense but stunning. The emotions hit hard. And that last third of the book? I cried. Gasped. Then, I immediately Googled if the next one was already out.

It’s the kind of book that lingers in your chest like caffeine jitters — in the best way possible.

☀️ What I’m Sipping

Today’s brew: a rich, medium roast McDonald’s coffee grounds with a sugar-free vanilla, with a splash of milk — smooth, strong, and dependable. Like a good friend or an SJM leading man.

📖 Up Next: Summer’s End (Just Kidding — It’s Summer Do Us Part)

To balance the intensity of Crescent City, I’m switching gears with something lighter: Summer Do Us Part. I’m in the mood for beachy vibes, small-town gossip, and maybe a touch of chaos. Because hey, summer deserves a little drama too. Plus all the Brads and Chads in this book.

✨ Final Thoughts (and Sips)

Here’s to first steps — even if they lead to a final class.
To strong coffee and even stronger female characters.
And to finishing what we started… one mug (and one book) at a time.

Brewed & Blogged: Why I’m Here (and What’s Brewing)

Grab a mug — we’re doing this.

After years of journaling, teaching, talking to my dogs, and mentally writing blog posts in my head, I finally brewed up the courage (and coffee) to hit “publish.”

Welcome to Brewed By Chelsey — a cozy, caffeinated space where I’ll be spilling more than just milk.

I’m Chelsey — single mom, teacher, reader, weightlifting wannabe, wellness warrior (in progress), and passionate over-sharer. If it involves books, strong coffee, big feelings, teaching moments, or sarcastic rants… I’m probably writing about it.

☕ What You Can Expect:

  • Bookish love letters & reading rants
  • Coffee obsessions & mug-worthy moments
  • Real-life wellness updates (not the fake, polished kind)
  • Teacher talk & life behind the classroom door

This blog isn’t about having it all figured out — it’s about finding joy in the chaos, laughing at the mess, and sharing what keeps me going (and grounded).

So go ahead: brew something warm, get comfy, and hang out with me here.

Let’s read. Let’s sip. Let’s be real.

xo,

Chelsey
